CONTINUING MEMBER CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®

PIKES PEAK ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®

Effective January 1, 2005 and for successive four year periods thereafter, each REALTOR® member of the Association shall be required to complete a quadrennial ethics training every four years, of not less than two hours and thirty minutes of instructional time.  This requirement will be satisfied upon presentation of documentation that you have completed a course of instruction conducted by this or another Association, the State Association of REALTORS®, the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® or any other recognized educational institution or provider which meets the learning objectives and minimum criteria established by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® from time to time.  REALTOR® members who have completed training as a requirement of membership in another association and REALTOR® members who have completed the New Member Code of Ethics Orientation during any four year cycle shall not be required to complete additional ethics training until a new three year cycle commences.

Failure to satisfy this requirement shall be considered a violation of a membership duty for which REALTOR® membership shall be suspended until such time as the training is completed.

The Code of Ethics course described may be taken online within the completion time stated above.  You may access this course from www.realtor.org and follow the steps below:

1.         Click the Education link on the left hand side of the page

2.        Click on "access the course"

3.         Click on the “Quadrennial REALTOR® Ethics Training” link.

You will need your NRDS ID #.  This number is located on your PPAR membership card, and is the same number you use to log into the PPMLS.  Once the course has been completed and passed, NAR will notify your association and email you a certificate of completion.

Please remember:  new members joining PPAR are required to take the six hour GRI Ethics & Professional Practices course to satisfy membership requirements. This is the same course required to gain the GRI designation.  For new members wanting to obtain the GRI designation, you do not need to complete another six hour GRI Ethics & Professional Practices course above and beyond the one you take for membership.  This GRI Ethics course also satisfies the NAR requirement for an Ethics course every four years.

If you have general questions on this Ethics course requirement, please contact Verna at vbarnes@ppar.org  or contact the Board Policy division at the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® at  312-329-8399.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q.        Does this online course offer CE credit?

A.        At this time, the NAR online course does not.  However, most boards offer a four hour Ethics course, classroom style, that does have CE credit that NAR will accept.

Q.        If I take the online course, do I still have to take the 6 hour GRI Ethics course?

A.        If you are a new member joining PPAR, you will need to take the 6 hour GRI Ethics course, either in our training room or online with VanEd, as well as the orientation class, to satisfy membership requirements.  This course satisfies the NAR requirement, PPAR membership requirement and the only required course for the GRI designation, therefore, you will not have to take the online or another Ethics course for another four years.  The same rules apply if you are taking courses to earn your GRI.

Q.        How will PPAR know if I have taken the online course?

A.        Once you have taken the course, NAR will notify PPAR and it will be tracked through our education department.  Members will receive via email a certificate from NAR.  VanEd emails you a certificate after you have completed the course  Or, if you take the course in a classroom, BE SURE TO FILE YOUR CERTIFICATE IN A SAFE PLACE!!

Q.        When does this required online course become effective?

A.        In January 2005, the four year period begins again and you will have until December 31, 2008  to take the required  course again.

Q.        Is this course available in the classroom, or do I have to take it online?

A.        Most boards offer the N.A.R. Required Ethics or the GRI Ethics course in the classroom.  However, if you are a REALTOR® who is pressed for time, the online version only takes about one and a half to two hours to complete.

Q.        How do I get started?

A.        Just log on to the website listed above and follow the simple instructions or check here at the PPAR schedule or go to www.vaned.com,
