NEW REAL ESTATE SCAM FROM CHINA
PPAR and RSC have been made aware of a scam targeting REALTORS® in Colorado Springs. Someone posing as a Chinese real estate buyer (names used thus far include Qiu Zilei and Harry Chang) is contacting REALTORS®. The scammer insists on sending the purchase money ahead of time. Eventually a very real looking but fraudulent cashier’s check is received. The scammer tries to get the recipient of the check to deposit it. Apparently, if the check is deposited the scammer will quickly request the recipient to return some portion of the funds to the scammer. Don’t get fooled.
A similar scam is being run from the United Kingdom. The scammer is using the name John Mitchell and is supposedly working for Hawker Brian. The scammer looks for account #'s to supposedly transfer the purchase money from Africa.
